Watercolor Studio Workshop with Maura Kenny

The schedule for the teacher workshop was:
8:45 – 9:10 a.m. – Registration
9:15 a.m. – Welcome, overview and introductions in Bryan Gallery
(Maura and Stephanie)
9:30 a.m. – Tour of exhibit and group discussions in Bryan Gallery
10:00 a.m. – Move to Studio (124) – PPT by Maura and introduction to first painting:
(1) Color mixing study, including traditional mixing on palette and applying with brush, color mingling which employs a wet on wet approach (and needed to understand shadow shape painting), and a color spray application mix.
11:30 a.m. – Break
11:45 a.m. – Revisit Bryan Gallery to examine technical content
12:00 p.m. – Search around perimeter of building for textural nature-based components for second technique in small groups
12:30 p.m. – Return to Studio (124); PPT by Maura and introduction to second painting:
(2) Nature painting (laying flat leaves, grasses, sea weed, flowers, pine straw, spanish moss etc., spray painting over them in layered colors) then add a shadow shape painting of fish, animal or figure on top layer.
2:00 p.m. – Group critique of studio work
2:30 p.m. – Discussion of curricular applications with students
2:50 p.m. – Clean up and workshop evaluation / reflection / closure
3:00 p.m. – End
